Valletta

Today we cruised into Valletta, Malta.  What an impressive city to cruise into! The city is made out of native limestone rock giving the whole place a sand coloured appearance. It has been termed as a genuine medieval marvel in the Mediterranean and I can see why ...... just stunning! It's 7000 year history extends from Stone Age to the Britsh Empire.  Our trip has coincided with a royal visit by Prince Wiliiam.  We didn't get to see him but we did get amongst some of the sights he was visiting.

We got a feel for the place by getting on one of the hop on hop off buses.  Some parts of the town are quite rustic, while others just eye popping.  We saw the traditional midday cannon gunfire salute which is performed extremely high in the fortification above the waters where you come into port.  To get to this you can walk up stairs or take the very high lift to the top for a Euro ...... yep we opted for the lift.  Took a look around the shopping area before heading back on deck.  It was quite a warm day!

Then cards, billiard and table tennis to fill in the afternoon.
